Abstract

PIP: The influence of abortion at the 7-8 weeks of pregnancy on the level of sex hormones in the blood of 60 women aged 20 to 35 years was studied. The abortions were made under anesthesia by scraping the uterine. It was established that before the abortion progesterone in blood averaged 22.98 +/- 4.66 ng/ml and estradiol-1940 =/- 5I2pg/ml. At the 7-8th weeks of pregnancy when compared to normal menstrual period estradiol content rose by 4-5 times and progesterone by 2 times. The abortion caused a decrease of the progesterone level by 38% after 1 hour, by 52% after 3 hours and by 80% after 24 hours (4.63+/-1.23 ng/ml). Concentration of estradiol 1 hour after abortion decreased by 58% and after 24 hours - by 88% (250 +/- 74 pg/ml). These findings suggest that the synthesis of steroid hormones at the 7-8 weeks of pregnancy occurs mainly in the fetoplacentic system and that only small quantities of progesterone and estradiol are produced by the luteous body. The ovulations were defective during the 1st menstrual cycle after obortion in 18% of women. During the 2nd menstrual cycle the ovulations were normal in all the women. The concentrations of progesterone and estradiol at these periods did not differ from their concentrations during normal menstrual cycles.
