Angiographic false positive diagnosis of carotid artery dissection

Abstract

A case is presented in which angiography provided a false positive diagnosis of carotid artery dissection following cervical trauma. At surgery, impingement of the carotid artery by the ansa cervicalis nerve and laceration of the superior thyroid artery were found.
