Int Dent J. 1995 Aug;45(4):255-60.

Abstract

This study examines the education and practice standards of the two most commonly employed dental auxiliaries in North America. Canada and the United States of America have very similar educational standards for the dental hygienist, whereas the dental assistants' educational programmes are less similar. The specific education requirements and legal provisions for employment of these dental auxiliaries is reviewed for both North American counties.
