[Clinical use of naltrexone]

Abstract

The author outlines a brief review of the clinical use of the opioid antagonist naltrexone in the psychosocial rehabilitation of opiate addicts. The major issues that an ideal program with naltrexone should deal with are pointed out. Patient selection is analyzed with an explicit reference to their hepatic status. The author addresses the different stages of induction and stabilization-maintenance.
