Pain-free harvesting of skin grafts with EMLA

Plast Surg Nurs. Winter 1994;14(4):231-4. doi: 10.1097/00006527-199401440-00008.

Abstract

This article will describe EMLA, a new type of topical anesthetic that is versatile in its clinical use, is effective in relieving pain, and has minimal, if any, side effects. Patient and staff education in the use of EMLA can help relieve the patient's anxiety about the pain from surgery and result in a positive outcome, including enhanced wound healing.
