Removal of an intraosseous metallic foreign body in the calcaneus utilizing a fluoroscopically guided bone trephine

J Foot Ankle Surg. 1994 Jan-Feb;33(1):83-6.

Abstract

The authors present the case of an adult female patient with an embedded needle in the calcaneus. The use of the Michele hand trephine under fluoroscopy for removal of an intracalcaneal metallic foreign body is described. Care must be taken not to violate the subtalar joint or leave osseous defects if multiple trephine attempts are required.
