Mother-son sexual abuse: rare or underreported? A critique of the research

Child Abuse Negl. 1993 Mar-Apr;17(2):261-9. doi: 10.1016/0145-2134(93)90045-7.

Abstract

This paper reviews the literature regarding mother-son sexual abuse and critiques the methodologies that may be responsible for the underreporting of such cases. The review of the clinical and empirical literature reveals discrepancies regarding estimates of incidence and prevalence of mother-son sexual abuse. The author suggests improved methodologies for researchers interested in studying this topic.
