Ten years of inpatient programs for alcoholic patients

Am J Psychiatry. 1977 May;134(5):542-5. doi: 10.1176/ajp.134.5.542.

Abstract

The author reviews the progress made during the past decade in making acute hospital facilities available to the alcoholic patient. He also describes the advances that have been made in the level of care provided by increasingly available detoxification centers. However, he finds that the needs of chronically and permanently disabled alcoholic individuals are still not being met by the mental health system.
