Controlling IGF-receptor function: a possible strategy for tumor therapy

Trends Biotechnol. 1996 May;14(5):150-2. doi: 10.1016/0167-7799(96)10023-8.

The insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-IR) is one of several growth-factor receptors that regulate the proliferation of mammalian cells. However, its ubiquitousness and certain unique aspects of its function make IGF-IR an ideal target for therapeutic interventions against abnormal growth, with very little effect on normal cells.
