Abstract

A true scale cross-section of the body is an indispensable condition for the accuracy of treatment planning in radiation therapy. To this end, ultrasonic or computed tomography may be used. Advantages and disadvantages of these methods are discussed. By summarization of cross-sections from all positions appropriate for treatment the most authentic body contours are obtained as an optimal basis for irradiation.
