Reviewing credentials and granting privileges

Tex Med. 1998 Nov;94(11):91-9.

Abstract

The process of reviewing credentials and granting privileges is generally well known to a medical staff member elected as department chair or appointed to the credentials committee, but the underlying principles on which it is based may have been lost to all but the most reflective observer. A brief historical survey and a review of the precepts are presented to broaden understanding of this important process.
