Population expansion and desertification in Tanzania

Desertif Control. 1982 Apr:(6):26-33.

Abstract

PIP: The relationship between population pressures, both human and animal, and land degradation in Tanzania is examined. The author suggests that 45 percent of the country's total area is already affected and that a further 35 percent is threatened. The process has involved population pressures leading to migration of people and then livestock to semi-arid regions. The need for changes in agricultural and settlement policies is stressed.
