Monkey pepsinogens and pepsins. Monkey pepsinogens and pepsins. V. Purification, Characterization, and amino-terminal sequence determination of crab-eating monkey pepsinogens and pepsins.
Kageyama T and Takahashi K. J Biochem 1980. PMID 6774974 Free article.
Pepsinogens were purified from the gastric mucosa of the crab-eating monkey, Macaca fascicularis. Eight pepsinogens were shown to be present disc-electrophoretically and they were termed pepsinogens I-a, I-b, III-1-a, III-1-b, III-2-a, III-2-b, III-3, and C, based on the nomenclature used for Japanese monkey pepsinogens. The molecular weights were 43,000 for pepsinogens I-a and I-b, 40,000 for pepsinogens III-1-a, III-1-b, III-2-a, III-2-b, and III-3, and 38,000 for pepsinogen C, as determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide disc gel electrophoresis. ...

Gastritis staging as a clinical priority
Mescoli C, et al. Eur J Gastroenterol Hepatol 2018 - Review. PMID 29215433
Diagnostic performance of serum pepsinogen assay for the prediction of atrophic gastritis and gastric neoplasms: Protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Bang CS, et al. Medicine (Baltimore) 2019. PMID 30681610 Free PMC article.
BACKGROUND: Serum pepsinogen assay (sPGA) combining concentration of pepsinogen I (PG I), and the ratio of PG I/II is the noninvasive biomarker for predicting chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) and neoplasms reflecting mucosal secretory status. ...

Blood biomarkers for early diagnosis of oesophageal cancer: a systematic review
Kunzmann AT, et al. Eur J Gastroenterol Hepatol 2018 - Review. PMID 29189391
Lower serum pepsinogen I concentrations were associated with an increased risk of oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (n=3 studies, pooled RR=2.20, 95% CI: 1.31-3.70). However, the association for the pepsinogen I : II ratio was not statistically significant (n=3 studies, pooled RR=2.22, 95% CI: 0.77-6.40), with a large degree of heterogeneity observed (I=68.0%). ...

[Pepsinogen].
Miki K. Nihon Rinsho 1995 - Review. PMID 7602778 Japanese.
To improve the effectiveness of gastric cancer screening, we have devised a new screening method that investigates the serum pepsinogen levels and applied a serum pepsinogen test to mass screening for gastric cancer at a certain workplace for the first time. ...In conclusion the best sensitivity for detecting gastric cancer is achieved by the mass screening with serum pepsinogen tests in combination with X-ray or endoscopy....

Pepsinogen test for the evaluation of precancerous changes in gastric mucosa: a population-based study.
Sjomina O, et al. J Gastrointestin Liver Dis 2018. PMID 29557410 Free article.
AIMS: The aim of the study was to evaluate the rationale of blood pepsinogen (PG) testing in population based screening settings. ...Pepsinogen I and II were measured in blood samples taken during the initial study and at follow-up; upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was performed. ...

The value of detecting pepsinogen and gastrin-17 levels in serum for pre-cancerous lesion screening in gastric cancer.
Yu G, et al. Neoplasma 2019. PMID 31058531
The aim of the study was to estimate the value of detecting pepsinogen (PG) I, PGII, and gastrin-17 (G-17) levels in serum for chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) screening and to determine the clinical applicability of combined measurement of serum G-17, pepsinogens (PGI, PGII) and PGI/PGII ratio (PGR) as a screening test for CAG. ...
