Neurological update: MOG antibody disease
Wynford-Thomas R, et al. J Neurol 2019 - Review. PMID 30569382 Free PMC article.
Randomised control trials are limited, but observational open-label experience suggests a role for high-dose steroids and plasma exchange in the treatment of acute attacks, and for immunosuppressive therapies, such as steroids, oral immunosuppressants and rituximab as maintenance treatment....

Is there a role for reproductive steroids in the etiology and treatment of affective disorders?
Rubinow DR and Schmidt PJ. Dialogues Clin Neurosci 2018 - Review. PMID 30581288 Free PMC article.
Reproductive steroids are particularly informative in our efforts to understand the pathophysiology of affective dysregulation for several reasons: i) Reproductive endocrine-related mood disorders (premenstrual dysphoric disorder, perinatal depression, perimenopausal depression) are wonderful clinical models for investigating the mechanisms by which affective state changes occur; ii) Reproductive steroids regulate virtually every system that has been implicated as disturbed in the ontogeny of affective disorders; iii) Despite the absence of a reproductive endocrinopathy a triggering role in the affective disturbance of reproductive mood disorders has been shown clearly for changes in reproductive steroids. The existing data, therefore, support a differential sensitivity to reproductive steroids in reproductive mood disorders such that an abnormal affective state is precipitated by normal changes in reproductive steroids. ...

The rheumatology/hematology interface: CAPS and MAS diagnosis and management
Gansner JM and Berliner N. Hematology Am Soc Hematol Educ Program 2018 - Review. PMID 30504326 Free PMC article.
In both CAPS and MAS, management generally includes but is not limited to immunosuppression with steroids. Fatalities are relatively common and morbidity is often significant. ...

The effect of inhaled steroids on the intraocular pressure.
Shroff S, et al. Digit J Ophthalmol 2018. PMID 30800006 Free PMC article.
BACKGROUND: Steroids are known to play a role in the pathogenesis of glaucoma, but little is known about the effect of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS). ...There was no statistically significant correlation between duration of inhaled steroids usage and increase in IOP (P = 0.62). ...

Treatment of cardiac sarcoidosis: A comparative study of steroids and steroids plus immunosuppressive drugs.
Ballul T, et al. Int J Cardiol 2019. PMID 30527995
Patients received steroids or steroids plus immunosuppressive drugs (IS) for CS treatment at diagnosis. The efficacy of each treatment strategy (steroids vs steroids + IS) was assessed by the cardiac relapse rate over follow up. ...Relapse rate was 45.8% in the steroids group versus 16.7% in the steroids + IS group (p = 0.048). CONCLUSIONS: In cardiac sarcoidosis, the combination of steroids with immunosuppressive drugs might reduce the risk of cardiac relapse, as compared to steroids alone....

Bullous pemphigoid
Miyamoto D, et al. An Bras Dermatol 2019 - Review. PMID 31090818 Free PMC article.
High potency topical steroids and systemic steroids are the current mainstay of therapy. Recent randomized controlled studies have demonstrated the benefit and safety of adjuvant treatment with doxycycline, dapsone and immunosuppressants aiming a reduction in the cumulative steroid dose and mortality....
