[Examination for medical officials and its question examples in Qing Dynasty]

Abstract

Following some of the systemic regulations of the Song Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty set up a complete system for examination and medical education of its own. Successively, the Imperical Medical Academy set up Department of Learning, Bureau of Medicine for teaching and examination and selection of right personnels to be promoted to the positions of medical officials. The compulsory subjects for exam included Su Wen, Herbology, and Pulsolgy. It also includes topics from major texts of relevant disciplines. This paper offers example questions for exams selected from two books of Draft for Examination in Qing Imperial Medical Academy.
